Google have announced on their blog that this week they plan to acquire the mobile phone and tablet brand Motorola Mobility. The deal which is set to take place will see Google acquire Motorola Mobility for an estimated £7.7 billion.
The move is said to have been Google’s way into the mobile market and an additional way for them to enhance their patent portfolio. Currently Android, Google’s brand is threatened by Apple and Microsoft and the latest developments with Motorola Mobility would see Google protecting Android. Since it was launched there have up to date been over 150 million people who actively use an Android device and these people span throughout 123 different countries. The deal with Motorola Mobility will see Google have an “explosive growth” and the deal is set to close at the end of 2011 or very early 2012.

There has been a huge increase in the number of searches made through a mobile device and also many people are now choosing to access the internet through a smartphone or tablet rather than a PC.
Through the development of mobile commerce it is only going to be a matter of time before users realise the convenience of their mobile handsets, smartphones, iPad and tablets and leave their heavy, bulky PC in the corner.
We are not saying that PC based browsing will be disappearing as they are heavily used within offices, homes and a full range of places. However, we could start to see more of a shift towards the more convenient mobile devices.
